THE first batch of 20 young workers in Bao’an District attended the opening ceremony of the Non-fiction Writing Training Program on June 10. The 20 individuals, all coming from different walks of life, included social workers, nurses, property managers and chefs. Bao’an is a district with a dense population of migrant workers, among whom young people are the driving force. The program, hosted by the Bao’an Federation of Literacy and Art Circles and supported by the Bao’an Hezhong Literature and Art Society, aims to encourage young workers to read more and discover and support potential writers. The students will attend non-fiction writing training for six months, which includes face-to-face lecturing, interviews, reading guidance and writing reviews. The organizers will recommend writings of the students to different magazines. The students are required to finish a non-fiction writing of over 5,000 characters on their own to reflect Bao’an’s achievements in social, economic and cultural sectors or to show their work and study experience in Bao’an. Their works will be compiled into a collection and then published. Over the past few years, the Bao’an District Government has remained committed to the development of migrant workers’ skills in an effort to make Bao’an a most popular place for young talents.
