Homegrown Lin secures two golds
    2018-06-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BAO’AN native Lin Gaoyuan became a local hero after he bagged two golds at the ITTF World Tour China Open at Bao’an Stadium in Shenzhen between June 3 and 4.

Lin and Fan Zhengdong scored victory over the multinational pair of Romania’s Ionescu Ovidiu and Spain’s Robles Alvaro 3-0 at the men’s doubles final of ITTF World Tour table tennis tournament June 3.

It was the second victory for the 23-year-old player in two days. On June 2, the pair of Lin and Chen Xingtong won the first-ever mixed doubles event in the tournament after seeing off Japanese pair Morizono Masataka/Ito Mima in the final of mixed doubles in four games: 13-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-8.

Lin was born in Bao’an District of Shenzhen, which was the host of this year’s China Open.

“Playing in front of home crowd doesn’t have pressure on me. So many people cheered for me, I have no excuse to lose.”

“I was so lucky in my hometown, my supporters here give me encouragement,” Lin said. “I want to say ‘thank you’ to my parents. My mother got up early these days to prepare soup for me, because Guangdong soup takes a long time to make.”

Lin was the Asian Cup champion in 2017 and was a member of the Chinese teams that took the gold medals at the 2018 Team World Cup and 2018 World Team Championships.
