SHENZHEN is planning to build a care center for the severely disabled in the next five years, which is estimated to provide 300 beds, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported Saturday.
The project has been listed as one of the key projects of the municipal government in 2018 and the site of the care center has been preliminarily decided, according to Hou Yisha, vice chairman of the sixth presidium of the Shenzhen Disabled Persons Federation.
Meanwhile, Shenzhen is also planning to provide on-demand call services for the disabled by leveraging various kinds of online and offline resources, the report said.
In addition, the central park in Longhua District will carry out a comprehensive transformation to turn barrier-free, becoming the first park of its kind in the city with an aim of becoming accessible to the physical challenged.
According to a work report released by the federation Friday, in the past 5 years, a total of 160 million yuan (US$24.17 million) has been allocated to disabled living allowance, benefiting nearly 110,000 disabled people.
It is also reported that the age range of disabled children receiving rehabilitation assistance has been extended to 18 years old. Both adult and senior disabled people have been covered in the rehabilitation system.
Additionally, 59 vocational rehabilitation centers in the city provide daytime caring services for more than 2,000 disabled people throughout the year, and 580 disabled people with financial difficulties have received one-on-one assistance.
