New delivery rooms built to relieve birth pains
    2018-07-02  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Bao’an District Maternity and Child Health-care Hospital was honored Saturday for its efforts to alleviate pregnant women pain in childbirth, the Dute News reported.

The Bao’an hospital received a honorary plaque for its modern delivery rooms from Hu Lingqun, one of the top specialists in China’s medical circle, Saturday.

After the awarding ceremony, Hu delivered a lecture about the management and construction of modern delivery rooms. According to Hu, the system of modern delivery rooms in the Bao’an hospital has reached the top level domestically.

“The hospital has put a large number of people and other resources into painless delivery and establishing the modern delivery rooms. It has set up 14 modern delivery rooms that provide a comfortable environment and reliable technologies for pregnant women,” said Hu.

The project aiming to achieve pain-free delivery was drawn out by Hu in 2006 and was launched in China in 2008. The Bao’an hospital joined the project in 2012.

More than 700 pregnant women give births to their babies under less painful or painless conditions every month in the hospital. About 90 percent of women first give birth through a method known as anodyne labor, according to the hospital authority.

The hospital has established some teams in various departments related to childbirth including the neonatology and ultrasonic departments to enhance cooperation among these departments. The hospital has also improved its infrastructure as well as optimized personnel allocation in delivery rooms to meet pregnant women’s needs.

The modern delivery rooms offered in the hospital contribute to a decreasing rate of births through cesarean section and neonatal mortality rate. Pregnant women can now deliver their babies in a safer environment with neonatal physicians.

Modern delivery rooms are a combination of operation rooms, delivery rooms and intensive care units (ICU) with high-quality facilities and efficient operation norms to provide better service for pregnant women, according to Hu.

First-aid equipment is required in modern delivery rooms to monitor the health conditions of expectant mothers and their newborns. With the help of modern delivery rooms, cesarean section operations can be completed in five minutes.
