Teacher detained on sexual assault charges
    2018-07-04  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A SCHOOLTEACHER in Weixin County, Yunnan Province, has been detained on suspicion of sexually assaulting six children, according to the county government.

A statement issued by the government said that police first received a report June 22, and an investigation found six victims.

The suspect, surnamed Jiang, 56, a teacher at Tangfang Primary School in Santao, was detained the next day. Police are investigating further. No more details were released and a request for an interview was declined Monday.

According to the county government’s statement, which was issued Friday, psychological counseling services have been arranged for the alleged victims and their parents.

A campaign to correct problems in teachers’ behavior was also launched by the county government.

Last month, a teacher at Linyi University in Shandong Province was removed from his post after he was accused of harassing several female students.

The teacher, surnamed Zheng, worked at the School of Chinese Language and Literature at Linyi University. He was reported by a female student who had gone to his home to visit him in June after she learned that he had broken a bone.

The student, whose name was withheld, said that Zheng verbally harassed her and sought to have sex with her at his home, according to Ynet.com.

The student posted part of their chat history online to prove that Zheng had harassed her, and also alleged that he had harassed other female students.

The university removed Zheng from his post as associate professor and banned him from teaching, according to an announcement on the university’s Sina Weibo account Saturday.

On June 20, a 19-year-old female high school student committed suicide in Qingyang, Gansu Province, after claiming that her former teacher, surnamed Wu, forcibly kissed her in September 2016. (China Daily)
