Wild bear kills couple in India
    2018-07-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHOCKING footage shows a man being mauled by a wild bear after it fatally attacked a couple in India, before a desperate mob kills the animal by beating it with long sticks.

Baipilli Urvasi, 50, and her husband Tirupathi Rao, 55, were mauled to death when the bear pounced on them in an orchard in south India.

When villagers in Yerramukkam, in Andhra Pradesh, moved in to attack the bear, in a video reminiscent of the Leonardo DiCaprio film “The Revenant,” the huge beast can be seen fighting back.

It pounces on one man, and locks its jaws around his arm, while pinning him to the ground in the footage taken June 10.

Four men who tried to save the couple and three more who later fought it, were seriously injured.

A local villager Ambati Karuna said, “Officials have done nothing to prevent wild bear attacks becoming common in the area.”

The bear had strayed into a cashew orchard, but before locals could alert the local forest department it had attacked Urvasi, who had been carrying garbage to dump on the village’s outskirts, reports New India Express.

Her husband, noticing the attack, went to her rescue and was also killed.

Enraged by the attack, a group of villagers took on the bear with sticks and stones, and three people were injured before the animal was beaten to death.

The injured — seven in total — were rushed to the nearby Palasa government hospital, before they were sent to King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam.

Forest ranger Arun Prakash told reporters that compensation would be paid to the family of the dead couple.
