Gym accused

SOME customers accused a gym in Nanshan District recently of abruptly closing without refunding memberships.

Over 1,000 members of the gym have paid for memberships that haven’t expired.

The owner of the gym, surnamed Liu, responded that he owes about 3 million yuan (US$450,477) for unpaid rent and penalties. He promised that a compensation plan would be released July 15.

Stuck child saved

A 2-YEAR-OLD girl who got stuck on her home’s second floor balcony in a residential building was saved by a resident named Wang Xi at 8 a.m. Saturday in Longgang District.

Wang found a lighting shaft which he could scale to the second floor. After climbing up through the hole he steadied the girl by standing on top of the first-floor security fencing.

The girl finally returned safely home after the 10-minute rescue. The girl’s parents expressed their gratitude after getting her back.

Wedding industry

IN addition to the tourism industry, the wedding industry has become another pillar of Dapeng New Area, providing full services for newlyweds, such as wedding photography, filming and a wedding ceremony.

Over the past four years, about 300,000 newlyweds from across the country have come to the area for wedding-related services each year.

Card cancellation

THE old version of social security cards with magnetic stripes will be canceled starting Aug. 1, the city’s social security bureau said.

Residents can apply for the new cards, which include financial functions, at more than 1,300 outlets of 12 banks in the city. Holders of the new social security cards can pay medical bills at over 9,487 hospitals across the country.
