Freighter sold to Israel in online auction
    2018-07-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A CARGO plane, which had been sold to an Israeli company at an online auction, left Shenzhen for Tel Aviv amid cheers from its new owner, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

At a recent ceremony, the buyer, the Israeli freighter carrier CAL Cargo Airlines, invited judges from Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court, which organized the online auction, to witness what the company called a milestone event and bid farewell to the plane.

The cargo plane was previously owned by Jade Cargo, a Shenzhen cargo flight operator jointly owned by Shenzhen Airlines, Lufthansa Cargo and another German company.

On Feb. 6, 2013, Jade Cargo applied for liquidation proceedings after the stakeholders could not come up with a restructuring plan. Jade Cargo had six 747-400Fs, of which three were sold soon after the company filed for bankruptcy, leaving three other freighters in China.

The three planes went up for auction on the online auction platform of Taobao.com after the company failed to find buyers at six offline auctions since Oct. 26, 2015.

Last November, SF Airlines purchased two of the three Boeing 747 planes for over 160 million yuan (US$24.24 million) each. The final freighter was auctioned last December for 146 million yuan. (Han Ximin)
