Outdoor safety fund

THE country’s first public fund to ensure the safety of outdoor activities was established at the Shenzhen Book City CBD Store on Friday.

The fund is led by the government of Dapeng New Area and was jointly established by Shenzhen Media Group Foundation to collect funds to promote outdoor safety and environmental protection through lectures and practical workshops.

It is also expected that more professional social organizations for outdoor activities and rescue will join the fund in the future.

Summer camp

A SUMMER camp especially organized for children afflicted with hemophilia was launched in Shenzhen on Friday.

Children aged 6 to 13 years old and their family members will attend workshops, salons and other activities to learn more about the disease, make friends and share personal stories during the hemophilia summer camp.

The purpose of the summer camp is to help children become confident in themselves and optimistic about curing their disease.

Orchid release project

A NATIONAL project aiming to reintroduce paphiopedilum purpuratum, an endangered species of orchid, to nature has been launched in Shenzhen. The launch ceremony featured a series of seminars on protecting orchids.

The first batch of 500 artificially cultivated paphiopedilum purpuratum were planted in the wild Yinhu region of Luohu District on Saturday.

SZU major

THE chemistry major at Shenzhen University (SZU) has made it into the top 1 percent on a global list, according to the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) released Friday. It is the university’s sixth major to enter the list.

According to ESI, the chemistry major offered by Shenzhen University ranks 1,157th worldwide. The department has published a total of 1,065 SCI theses, with 7,708 citations.

Job fair

YANTIAN District hosted a recruitment fair for college graduates last week.

The fair attracted 50 well-known enterprises in the district, providing 758 job vacancies. Among the 200 jobseekers who signed up for the fair, 53 have received job offers.

Suicide threat

A MAN in Luohu District threatened to jump off a building in order to settle a lease dispute with his landlord, but was detained by the police for disturbing public order.

Standing at the top floor of a building in Huangbei Subdistrict, the man surnamed Lin claimed that he was going to jump off and thus attracted a large crowd.

Lin was talked down by the police for more than an hour and was later brought to a police station for investigation. His motivation was to force the landlord to appear and settle their dispute.
