Child saved

A 3-YEAR-OLD boy who got stuck in a balcony’s safety fence and was hanging in mid-air from the ninth floor of a residential building in a community in Matian Subdistrict, Guangming was saved by police officers recently.

The boy’s grandparent had left the child, along with his 5-year-old sister, at home alone. Out of fear, the child climbed out on the balcony and got stuck. Police tried to pull him back into the room, but failed as most of his body up to his chest had fallen through the fencing.

Police later cut open the window beside the balcony and a resident surnamed Zhang, who is a metal shop owner, volunteered to use an electric cutter to cut the bars of the fence, through which a police officer was able to pull the child to safety.

Typhoon alert

A TROPICAL depression that formed northeast of the Philippines and will most probably become the No. 9 typhoon of the year will affect the Guangdong coast, according to Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory.

The observatory issued a white warning at 5 p.m. yesterday and estimated it would affect the city in 48 hours.

The depression was 1,080 kilometers southeast of the city at 2 p.m. and was moving at speeds of 25-30 kilometers per hour. Affected by the depression, the city will be cloudy with showers at around noon today and temperatures will range between 26 and 32 degrees Celsius.

Community parks

TWO community parks in Baolong Subdistrict, Longgang District, are under construction and are expected to be put into use in the first half of next year.

The two parks, namely Tongle Hi-Tech Park community park and Tongde community park, cover 25,000 square meters and 65,000 square meters, respectively. The former is expected to be completed by the end of this year, while the latter is anticipated to be done in the first half of next year. The parks will offer local residents good spaces for leisure and physical exercise.
