Ferris wheel to be put into use in 2020
    2018-07-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A 128-METER Ferris wheel named Shenzhen Glory will be built on the coast of the Bao’an Central Business District, becoming a landmark in the west of the city.

The Ferris wheel, a key project of the Bao’an Coastal Cultural Park, will be put into use in 2020 and become a symbol of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in the future, according to the Shenzhen Evening News.

Said to be a rare spokeless type of Ferris wheel, it will have a total of 28 carts, each of which accommodates up to 25 people in a 16.8-square-meter space.

According to the contractor, Shenzhen OCT Coast Co. Ltd., equipment procurement for the Ferris wheel has been completed. The OCT company will apply for construction approval before starting assembly to make sure it can be put into use in 2020, when the first phase of the cultural park is scheduled to open to the public.

The Bao’an Coastal Cultural Park is located along the coastal belt of Bao’an Central Business District. Covering an area of 1.68 square kilometers, it connects Qianhai cooperation zone in the east, the Dachan Bay port area in the west and Bao’an CBD in the north. The park is being developed in three phases.

In the first phase, which will cost about 10 billion yuan (US$1.49 billion) and cover 380,000 square meters, an art and performance center, a business area, an entertainment area, a leisure area and a coastal park are planned.

The art and performance center will include a 1,500-seat theater, and a 600-seat multiple-function opera house with rehearsal halls, training rooms and other facilities.

The park will offer 5,500 jobs and generate 300 million yuan a year in tax revenue.

The design of the park’s first phase won last year’s honorary award of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
