Soil pollution

NANSHAN District has launched a campaign against soil pollution, vowing to bring the utilization rate of contaminated arable land up to 95 percent by the end of the year.

The district government has drawn up an action plan to deal with the pollution. Among the major tasks the district government has set for itself this year are the evaluation of soil quality, management of land for construction, and prevention and control of sources of soil pollution.

More rainfall today

AFFECTED by Typhoon Son-Tinh, showers and strong winds hit Shenzhen yesterday.

Son-Tinh, the ninth typhoon this year, made landfall at around 4:50 a.m. yesterday in Wanning in South China’s island province of Hainan, bringing gales of up to 23 meters per second.

It will be cloudy in Shenzhen today and tomorrow, along with showers or thunderstorms, Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said yesterday.

New landmark

CONSTRUCTION of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Center in Longgang District is expected to start next month.

The building’s main tower will reach up to 700 meters, according to its design. Upon completion, the building will stand 800 meters above sea level, according to a Southern Metropolis Daily report.
