IN a bid to create a child-friendly environment, Fuhai Subdistrict in Bao’an District recently held a themed drawing competition to stimulate children’s enthusiasm to participate in urban planning and construction. The competition revolved around four themes: child-friendly logos, Fuhai Children’s Park, sculptures in Fuhai Children’s Park and space transformation in communities. In a few days, the organizer had collected nearly 400 works, of which 12 won first prizes, 40 won second prizes, and 80 got third prizes. The awards ceremony was hosted at Fanshen Primary School on July 11. Meanwhile, a children’s forum was held on the same day. Centering on the topic, “What do you expect most in the construction of a child-friendly space in Fuhai Subdistrict,” 13 children shared their ideas and feelings from different perspectives. Li Yi, secretary of the Party work committee of Fuhai Subdistrict, said the forum was a good opportunity to listen to the children’s needs and examine Fuhai’s urban space and planning from their unique perspectives. In 2016, Shenzhen put forward a proposal for constructing a child-friendly city, giving children priority in participating in urban public affairs. The move also aimed to bring children into the decision-making system while taking full consideration of their rights and interests. Bao’an has also put forward a three-year plan to become a district that is more conducive to the success of not only children but also women, by motivating them to engage in various fields of economic and social development, such as public service, the optimization of space and other areas of social participation.
