BAO’AN District launched the first centralized action against illegal buildings in the second half of the year July 4, demolishing a total of 20,902 square meters in 10 subdistricts. In Xixiang Subdistrict, an incomplete four-story building was dismantled. In Shajing Subdistrict, a three-story building was pulled down, providing more space for Shajing Hospital. In Songgang Subdistrict, three residential buildings were removed to make way for Metro Line 6. These were just part of Bao’an’s ambitious plan to eliminate illegal construction. This year, Bao’an aims to demolish a total of 6.106 million square meters of illegal buildings in the district, which accounts for one-third of the entire city’s total. Bao’an first launched the centralized campaign in its 10 subdistricts March 28, removing 63,000 square meters of structures that were illegally built. Subsequently, the campaign has been carried out every week, with a specific subdistrict designated as the main venue and the others as subvenues. So far this year, Bao’an has carried out 15 centralized operations and demolished 425,000 square meters of illegal structures. In addition, Bao’an has managed to crack the puzzle of demolishing illegal constructions within first-level protection areas of drinking water resources. As of July 2, a total of 159 buildings covering an area of 40,900 square meters had been removed from these protection areas. Bao’an also shows zero tolerance toward illegal structures with hidden safety hazards. It has dispatched 23,743 law enforcers and 6545 vehicles so far this year to check 25,821 construction sites. According to official statistics, a total of 359,600 square meters of illegal buildings with hidden safety dangers have been demolished in the district. (Zhang Yu) |
