TWO 24-hour self-service halls were recently put into use in the Longteng and Langxin communities in Shiyan Subdistrict, as the Bao’an District Government furthers the reform of building a digital government and strives to strengthen the construction of a modern community governance system. The self-service halls are equipped with terminals for services like social insurance, police and other governmental affairs. Residents can handle a total of 196 kinds of governmental affairs in the self-service halls. A woman surnamed Liu, who lives in Langxin Community, said she recently lost her ID card and went to the self-service hall to apply for a new one. In less than 10 minutes, she got a new ID card. “I didn’t expect that it would be so convenient,” Liu said excitedly. “Now that there is a self-service hall in the community, we needn’t take a day off on workdays and line up to handle governmental affairs,” she said. According to a staffer at the subdistrict office, before the self-service halls were opened to the public, residents had to go to the only administrative service hall in the subdistrict to apply for governmental services, such as extending entry-exit permits for traveling to Hong Kong and Macao and inquiring about personal social insurance information.
