BAO’AN became the home to Shenzhen’s first public health Ph.D. studio June 28 when the center was inaugurated at the district’s disease control and prevention center (CDC). Nine doctorate degree holders in the center specialize in health toxicology, physical testing, chemical analysis, pathogeny biology, viral immunology, epidemiology and public hygiene. They are tasked with the prevention and supervision of epidemics, as well as the supervision of food, drugs and public environmental hygiene, according to Liu Kaiqian, head of the center. The studio will keep a close watch on the latest developments in domestic and international public health, conduct scientific research on the subject, and promote cooperation between universities and research institutes to enhance the capabilities of the CDC. It will also serve as a think tank for the district’s public health authorities.(SD News) |
