DAPENG Peninsula experienced serious congestion over the weekend, as 77,000 vehicles went to tourist attractions and the seaside for leisure.

Police received a total of 410 congestion reports in the two days, 20 times more than during the same period last year.

Among the vehicles, 45 percent had nonlocal license plates. There was also serious congestion in the Yantian area Sunday, and Yantian police received a total 110 congestion reports.

Xiaomeisha tornado

A FIVE-MINUTE tornado was seen at sea from Xiaomeisha between 11:37 a.m. and 11:42 a.m. yesterday, according to the Xiaomeisha park management.

It was the second tornado reported in the sea area in a month.

The meteorological observatory reminded residents to keep their distance while watching tornados because of the damage they could cause.

Illegal structures

TWO illegal structures near Xikeng Reservoir, a first-level water source protection area in Longhua District, were demolished in an action last week.

The two illegal buildings were located in the Yonglang villa area.

Park renovation

WITH a history of more than 40 years in Nanshan District, Sihai Park will undergo a facelift to become a central lake park, Nanshan’s urban management bureau announced Sunday.

The bureau has publicized the detailed plans of the renovation blueprint on its website and is going to invite public bidding for the construction of the park.

According to the blueprint, the park will include a running track, pavilions, public restrooms, bridges and other facilities. The renovation will take place in stages in order to remain partly open for residents, said the bureau.
