Unlicensed tricycles

TRAFFIC police will impound tricycles, levy fines of 2,000 yuan (US$294) and detain drivers for up to 15 days for driving without a license starting Aug. 1.

All of the tricycles running on Shenzhen roads have been refitted and won’t be allowed on roads, according to police.

So far this year, tricycle-related accidents have killed six people and injured six others, sources from the traffic police said.

Fugitive caught

A TRUCK owner, surnamed Jiang who had been on the run for two years after a fatal accident, was caught recently and is facing a criminal charge, according to the police’s official WeChat account.

In an accident Dec. 11, 2016, Jiang’s truck overturned and crashed into a car on a road in Luohu District, killing one passenger in the car. An investigation found the truck had been overloaded, refitted and was operating without an annual check.

Jiang was sentenced to one year in prison in July 2017, but escaped.

Chorus awarded

THE Voice of Sea Chorus in Yantian District won the gold prize in the folk song category at the Seventh Florence International Chorus Festival that concluded recently.

The Voice of Sea Chorus was established in August 2013 and has successfully organized the New Year’s Concert in Yantian District for five straight years, while also joining many performances in Hong Kong and Dongguan.
