More self-supervision of news apps needed
    2018-07-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE operations of the news apps of Chinese commercial websites are generally good but requires better self-supervision of their content, a recent report suggested.

The report, assessing information provided by the apps of 11 websites in June, was released by China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) yesterday.

The report praised the apps’ efforts in the timely releasing of important news, use of social networks in news communication, and progress in promoting positive social energy and core values.

However, some of the news apps assessed were found to have problems such as misleading and exaggerated headlines or vulgar content. Some malicious remarks were found in their comment sections, the report said, suggesting the need for stronger self-supervision by operators in these regards.

Similar problems were also found in some of the commercial websites, according to another report measuring six commercial websites also released by the CNNIC yesterday.
