British foreign secretary to visit China
    2018-07-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BRITISH Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt will pay an official visit to China on July 30 at the invitation of Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Geng Shuang announced Monday.

During the visit, Premier Li Keqiang and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Yang Jiechi will each meet with the foreign secretary, Geng said at a press briefing.

Wang and Hunt will co-host the 9th China-U.K. Strategic Dialogue and exchange views on bilateral relations and international and regional hotspot issues, according to the announcement.

“The China-U.K. relationship enjoys sound momentum for development at this point,” Geng said.

Earlier this year, British Prime Minister Theresa May visited China, marking another round of the annual meeting between the Chinese Premier and the British Prime Minister. Leaders of both countries reached important consensus on pushing forward the “Golden Era” for China-U.K. relations, he said.

Hunt came to China to hold the China-U.K. Strategic Dialogue shortly after taking office, showing that the British side attaches great importance to the development of bilateral relations, Geng said.

“China also highly values deepening cooperation with the United Kingdom in various fields. We believe that Hunt’s visit will enhance political mutual trust and promote greater development of the China-U.K. global comprehensive strategic partnership for the 21st century,” said the spokesperson.
