Fugitive busted A MAN suspected of embezzlement has been arrested in Chongqing Municipality by the Shenzhen police after 18 years on the run. The man surnamed Xie was the deputy manager of a Shenzhen company’s financial department. In 2000, he was investigated on suspicion of embezzlement of public funds and later fled to escape punishment. With just a yellowing black-and-white photo of Xie, the investigation team screened out 13 people with similar facial features using big data and face comparison technology to track him down early this month. Forged police badge A MAN is being held under a 15-day detention for attempting to speed up the procedure of applying for a replacement of his lost driver’s license with a fabricated police badge last week. The man claimed to be a police officer by showing a forged police badge to a staffer at the vehicle administration office in Xili, Nanshan District. However, the vigilant staffer reported him to a real police officer at the office and they found that the man was impersonating a cop with the fake badge. The man works as a security guard at a technology firm in Bao’an District. He once served as an auxiliary police officer in Xinjiang.
