Guangdong newborns able to get e-birth certificates
    2018-07-31  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

PARENTS in Guangdong are able to apply for a birth certificates for their newborn babies via the mini app “Nanyuetong” as of yesterday. They can also apply for electronic birth certificates on the same platform. This is another achievement of the Digital Guangdong project.

In the past, parents needed to confirm the names of the newborn babies and bring their original ID cards to make an appointment on site, which took a lot of time and was really inefficient.

Now it takes only three steps to apply for a birth certificate online. Five working days after the mother gives birth, she can apply on the mini app to get the birth certificate by verifying her identity via facial recognition, entering the baby’s name, and filling in the personal information of the baby’s father. On the following day, they can see the baby’s electronic birth certificate on the mini app.

This online function has been trialed at all of the institutions qualified to deliver in Guangzhou, Zhaoqing and Jiangmen.

The digital certificate can be used as an official document in the province in place of the traditional paper version. It will be gradually used for different affairs with different departments.

The digital certificate features mutual recognition, easy inquiry, security and reliability.

All birth certificates issued after May 1 this year can be connected with the electronic one. Guangdong will speed up the issuing of electronic birth certificates for those issued after Jan. 1, 2014.
