GDP up 8% SHENZHEN’S gross domestic product (GDP) hit 1.1009 trillion yuan (US$162 billion) in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 8 percent, data from the city’s statistics bureau showed yesterday. The city’s economy maintained steady growth in the first six months thanks to supply-side structural reforms, bureau officials said. The added values of Shenzhen’s primary, secondary and tertiary industries were up by 10.9 percent, 7.6 percent and 8.3 percent, respectively. Leading economic indicators, such as industrial output, fixed-asset investment, retail sales, as well as imports and exports, all proved to be satisfactory. Traffic accident A DRIVER of a BMW car was determined to hold no responsibility in an accident where he crashed into a guardrail to avoid bumping into a Jeep Wrangler, on Qingping Expressway on the night of July 25. Initially, the traffic police reasoned that the BMW driver should take full responsibility for the accident. However, on July 26 the driver surnamed Wei requested the case be reviewed and offered video evidence showing that the accident was caused when the Wrangler changed lanes, forcing him to veer into the guardrail. After further investigation, it was finally decided that the Wrangler driver was fully responsible for the accident. |
