AI learns to write sonnet
    2018-08-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

人工智能会写十四行诗

Researchers have revealed AI that they hope will one day write a perfect Shakespearean sonnet.

Researchers at IBM trained it using 2,600 sonnets taken from a free online database of out-of-copyright books called “Project Gutenberg.”

The researchers, led by Jey Han Lau at IBM Research Australia, used three techniques to train their AI. One looked for rhyming patterns, one learnt the type of language used in sonnets, and one learnt the rhythm of the lines.

Researchers then asked workers from a website to rate them. “We found that our full model has the highest ratings for both rhyme and meter*, even higher than human poets,” the team wrote. “This might seem surprising, but in fact it is well established that real poets regularly break rules of form to create other effects.”

However the AI sonnets struggled with emotion. “Despite excellent form, the output of our model can easily be distinguished from human-written poetry due to its lower emotional impact and readability.”(SD-Agencies)
