21 arrested

A GROUP of 21 suspects have been arrested for allegedly cheating over 20,000 people of more than 900 million yuan (US$132 million), police in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, said Tuesday.

An Internet investment platform that received large amounts of money daily but had no actual sale of goods caught police attention last December. According to an investigation, registered members were enticed to transfer money to the platform and persuade as many people as possible to register in the hope of high returns.

Inspection team

AN inspection team was dispatched to check the disposition of substandard DPT vaccines produced by Wuhan Institute of Biological Products Co. Ltd. yesterday.

The team is jointly formed by members from departments including the State Drug Administration (SDA) and National Health Commission, and led by Li Li, deputy director of the SDA.

7 disqualified

THE All China Lawyers Association (ACLA) said it disqualified seven lawyers in June after they were charged with criminal offenses.

Lawyers’ associations at the national and local levels in the country received 646 complaints targeting lawyers in June. Most of the complaints were about lawyers failing to perform their duties and accepting cases or money illegally, according to an ACLA source.
