Shared umbrellas

A COMPANY called Mobrella has distributed shared umbrellas to 15 stations along Metro Line 4 since Tuesday. Residents who need to use a Mobrella can scan the QR codes at 28 service points at the stations. The umbrellas are free to use for the first 24 hours, and users will be charged 0.5 yuan (US$0.07) per day after the first 24 hours. No deposit is required to use the service with Alipay if a user has 600 or more points on Alipay’s Sesame Credit. When using WeChat to scan the QR code, a deposit of 15 yuan is required. If a user fails to return the umbrella within 30 days, the deposit will be confiscated and the Mobrella will belong to the user. The company has also set up 3,000 service points in shopping malls, restaurants and other public areas across the city.

Service hours

THE service hours of the Lost-and-Found Center under the city’s transport commission have been extended by five hours each day. The center, which was set up in May 2011 so residents could reclaim belongings they had accidentally left in taxis, is now open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Previously, the center was open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Residents had retrieved a total of 19,886 personal belongings from the center as of June.

LNG terminal

CHINA National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) Shenzhen has launched a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the city to boost the supply of clean energy.

The new terminal, located in Dapeng New Area, is expected to supply some 17 million cubic meters of natural gas on a daily basis to North China this winter, CNOOC said Wednesday.

The facility can handle 4 million tons of LNG a year as it is equipped with four 160,000-cubic-meter storage tanks and a specially designed berth for large LNG ships.
