TO improve water quality, Shenzhen is determined to complete the city’s water treatment projects by the end of the year, moving up the deadline set by the 13th Five-Year Plan. In order to meet the goal, Shenzhen is also trying to expand the scope of the city’s rainwater and sewage separation project to urban villages and industrial parks. It has been 11 years since Shenzhen started its water treatment work. This year Shenzhen decided that the water treatment work in 5,520 urban villages across the city shall be finished within the year. So far, Yantian District has completed its task. Futian, Luohu and Nanshan districts have entered into the key stage in the construction of their water treatment projects. The other districts and new areas have also initiated construction or laid out blueprints. Gong Limin, an official from the city’s water quality improvement office, said that comprehensive work on water treatment should focus more on old urban villages and industrial parks. By the end of July, Shenzhen had completed source-cleaning projects in 1,106 housing estates. As is shown by monitoring data, water treatment projects have effectively increased both the quantity and concentration of sewage water in municipal sewage plants. (Zeng Zhiwei) |
