Horse trading 讨价还价
    2018-08-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A: Have you heard it? John will be named the CFO at the next board meeting.

B: Yeah. I’m sure that’s a typical horse trading.

Note: Horse trading originally refered to the buying and selling of horses. Due to the difficulties in evaluating the merits of a horse offered for sale, the selling of horses offered great opportunities for dishonesty. It was expected that horse sellers would capitalize on these opportunities and so those who dealt in horses gained a reputation for underhand business practices. The term was widely adopted as a way to describe what might be seen as unethical business practices in a more positive light. It can simply mean hard bargaining to obtain equal concessions by both sides in a dispute.
