Oil-smuggling network

CUSTOMS authorities in East China’s Jiangsu Province have busted a major network involved in smuggling more than 100,000 tons of fuel.

Nanjing customs reported Monday that the smuggling network involving two groups had been operating in areas such as Jiangsu, Fujian, and Shanghai since 2017. They owned five ships and sold refined oil smuggled from overseas on the domestic market for profit.

Man charged

A MAN who stabbed two schoolboys to death in Shanghai earlier this year has been charged with homicide, the Shanghai People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.

On the morning of June 28, Huang Yichuan, 29, took a bus to the vicinity of the Shanghai World Foreign Language Primary School on Pubei Road in Xuhui district where he attacked three children and a female parent with a kitchen knife.

4b-yuan losses

FLOODS triggered by heavy rain have resulted in direct economic losses of over 4 billion yuan (US$580) in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, local authorities said yesterday.

The province has seen 2.5 times more precipitation since mid-July than the amount during the same period in previous years.

Water levels in 15 major rivers, including the Heilongjiang and Nenjiang rivers, have exceeded their warning levels, according to the provincial flood control headquarters.
