2 detained for quarry worker’s death
    2018-08-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

TWO employees at a quarry in Longgang District, including a workplace safety supervisor, were detained for covering up a fatal accident to evade liability.

Longgang police received a report July 31 from a man surnamed Wang, who claimed to be the work safety supervisor at the quarry in Yuanshan Subdistrict, saying that a worker at his factory, identified as Lan, 54, had been found unconscious on the road and died after being sent to a hospital.

A forensic analysis showed that Lan had died from a heavy impact. The police’s on-site investigation failed to find any trace of an accident. If Lan hadn’t died due to an accident, then the cause of such a big impact and the reason he had gone, in the darkness of night, to that remote slope behind the parking lot would be suspicious.

The production foreman, surnamed Xie, later told police that Lan had been rolled over by a stone grinder in the quarry. Wang and Xie rushed Lan to the hospital. The doctor told Wang to call the police after Lan was pronounced dead. To evade responsibility, Wang and Xie made a false report. (Han Ximin)
