SKATEBOARDS can be roughly divided into three categories: street skateboards, longboards, and cruising skateboards, depending on size and design.

The street skateboard is the most traditional type, the one people are most familiar with seeing on the streets for doing cool moves and tricks.

The longboard is more recent and popular. Longboards’ decks are longer and wider than the traditional board, and they are further subdivided into dancing and downhill types. The former combines dancing with skateboarding, a popular option among girls. The latter, used on downward slopes, is designed to achieve high speeds. The average speed of a downhill longboard can reach 70 kilometers per hour, and the world record is 130 kilometers per hour.

Lastly, the cruising skateboard is most commonly treated as a means of transportation.
