Geely in global push

AUTOMAKER Geely has agreed to extend its existing partnership with Proton Holdings Berhad to upgrade the Malaysia carmaker’s line-up of cars and power Proton go beyond Malaysia, part of an ongoing effort to help Proton establish a presence in China and other international markets.

In order to take Proton beyond Malaysia, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group said it will allow Proton to tap its green-car technology, as well as basic vehicle platform technologies which Geely has developed jointly with its wholly owned unit Volvo Cars of Sweden.

Commercial pension

GANSU Province said it will encourage commercial insurance institutions to develop diversified commercial pension insurance products to meet increasing demand for an aging society, the Gansu government said in a statement.

The move followed a call by the State Council last year to speed up development of commercial pension insurance.

BMW venture

BMW will give the possibility of raising its stake in its Chinese joint venture careful consideration, Xinhua reported late Sunday, quoting a company executive.

Potential for the German carmaker to boost its Chinese stake was opened up when the National Development and Reform Commission said in April that the country would scrap foreign ownership limits on commercial vehicle manufacturers in 2020 and lift restrictions on passenger vehicle companies in 2022.
