GPS checks

HEAVY vehicles in the city that fail to have a GPS installed and connected to the city’s monitoring system, or have their GPS data modified, will be fined 500 yuan (US$73) for each violation.

Traffic police recently launched an action to ensure all heavy vehicles have a GPS.

Between January and July, traffic police checked a total of 12,885 vehicles, 92 percent of all the vehicles that were subject to inspection. Among them, 654 vehicles had failed to install a GPS, 4.67 percent of the total, and 4,428 vehicles, 31.64 percent of the total, couldn’t connect with the monitoring platform due to interface damage.
