Man thanked for subsidizing 2 kids’ education for 16 years
    2018-08-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CAI WENCHUAN, a local entrepreneur, was shown appreciation for subsidizing 16 years of education for two children in Gansu Province, as one of the beneficiaries came to thank him in person Aug. 18, sznew.com reported.

In 2002, Cai heard that many children in Kangle County were unable to go to school because their families were too poor. The story reminded him of himself, as he had to drop out of junior high school because his family couldn’t afford his education.

Later, Cai went to Kangle County for an inspection. After witnessing the situation of many poor families, Cai decided to set up a foundation to support these children with education. He donated 1 million yuan (US$145,989) in 2002 to help orphans and impoverished students finish their primary-school education, 200,000 yuan of which was used to subsidize 204 students from poor families in Kangle County.

Sun Xin, who was then 7 years old, and his sister Sun Jia, 9, were among the subsidized children.

“Uncle Cai, I sincerely thank you for helping me and my sister go to school, which has changed our family’s fate. After my sister graduated from university, she started her own business. I’m a junior in college and I want to work in Shenzhen and become a caring person like you,” Sun said. They hadn’t met in more than 10 years.

Cai said he felt a sense of achievement seeing the two siblings had attended college and had grateful hearts. (Zhang Yu)
