Eight new schools

EIGHT new schools and four renovated schools will be put into use in Nanshan District for the new semester, offering 13,000 new school slots, according to a meeting on the district’s education Friday.

The new schools include one independent high school, two nine-year schools and five primary schools.

Baby locked in car

A 1-YEAR-OLD baby was locked inside a car for more than half an hour around noon in the underground parking lot at Shenzhen Book City CBD Store on Aug. 22, before firefighters smashed open the car window to rescue the baby.

The mother had given the car keys to the baby to play with. But when the mother got out of the car, the baby accidentally locked the car from the inside. The baby was completely soaked in sweat and showed symptoms of a heatstroke when rescued.

Toddler killed

A 3-YEAR-OLD was run over and killed while crossing the street at the intersection of Guangming Boulevard and Guangming Street.

The driver hit the child surnamed Li at 7 p.m. Aug. 16., and the child’s parents rushed him to the hospital.
