Expressway renovation

THE fast lanes on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway’s Shenzhen section will be closed starting from today for a monthlong improvement project, according to the Shenzhen transport commission.

People driving to Guangzhou, Huanggang Checkpoint, or the Shenzhen airport are advised to plan their trips in advance or detour to other roads because of possible congestion that may delay their trip.

Phones in wheelchair

HUANGGANG Customs officers seized 324 used mobile phones from the electricity-powered wheelchair of a Hong Kong traveler who entered the mainland through Futian Checkpoint on Aug. 21.

The phones have a market value of 600,000 yuan (US$88,196). This is the largest mobile phone smuggling case busted by Huanggang Customs this year.

Trademark violations

A MAN surnamed Jian was recently sentenced to four years in jail by Longhua court for illegally assembling and selling 50,000 water heaters that had infringed on the trademark of a well-known water heater manufacturer. Jian was also fined 1.55 million yuan.

Official probed

GAO CHANGJUN, director of Nanshan transport bureau, is under investigation for serious disciplinary violations, according to a notice by the city’s discipline inspection commission.

Drunk man steals cab

A DRUNK man hailed a taxi, scared off the driver and drove the car onto an expressway in Longgang District on Thursday night.

Police intercepted the car after receiving a report from the taxi driver. A test confirmed the man, surnamed Qin, had been drunk. The case is under further investigation.
