Hit-and-run

A MAN driving under the influence of alcohol was caught four hours after fleeing the scene of an accident that injured two people in Nanshan District on Aug. 22.

At 11:17 p.m., a car driven by the man surnamed Wang collided with an electric bike on Baishi Road, leaving an elderly woman lying on the ground with serious injuries. Three witnesses called police and they caught Wang in his apartment four hours later. A test showed Wang’s blood alcohol content had reached 104 mg per 100 ml, higher than the legal limit of 80 mg per 100 ml of drunk driving.

Wang claimed he hadn’t noticed hitting someone, as it was raining heavily and the visibility was poor, adding that when his car bounced he had thought it was a pothole.

Wang has been criminally detained.
