Trapped hiker rescued on Mt. Fenghuang in Bao’an
    2018-08-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SEVERAL soldiers with Shenzhen Garrison Command rescued a hiker trapped on Feng-huang Mountain in Bao’an District over the weekend. The man had been stranded next to a huge rock for three days before being rescued, the Shenzhen Evening News reported.

On Saturday, four soldiers from the garrison command went hiking on Fenghuang Mountain. When they reached the top of the mountain at around 6:30 p.m., the soldiers heard weak cries for help from down the cliff.

The soldiers found the man next to the huge rock at the bottom of the cliff. He looked extremely weak. After calling the mountain management office, an ambulance and the firefighting department, the soldiers climbed down the mountain to deliver bread and water to the man.

The stranded man told the soldiers that he had hiked up the mountain by himself three days ago, but accidentally fell down the cliff. He was injured and passed out for a short time after the fall. After he regained consciousness, he survived on rain water.

The man could not find his phone after falling down the cliff, so he kept crying out for help over the past few days.

The soldiers kept him company and helped him contact his family. They did not leave until a professional rescue team arrived.

According to a doctor with Fuyong People’s Hospital, where the man was hospitalized, the 19-year-old is currently in stable condition besides some injuries to his hip joint and lungs.

One of the soldiers who helped rescue the trapped man, Ma Dongdong, lent a hand to another resident the next day. He helped a senior woman who was lying on a road in Futian District.

Ma found the woman lying on the road and he went up to offer help.

Ma contacted the woman’s family and called an ambulance. He waited beside the woman and held an umbrella to block the sunshine until the woman’s family arrived. (Zhang Qian)
