Shenzhen universities attract more Gaokao students
    2018-08-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Shenzhen universities are proving popular among Gaokao takers, according to this year’s admission data.

The Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen (HIT) announced it had recruited 760 outstanding undergraduates from 18 provinces, including 157 students from Guangdong Province. HIT’s science student admissions set a benchmark of 614 points, ranking it the most-competitive in Guangdong Province.

The Southern University of Science and Technology has recruited only a little over 1,000 students, whereas the number of applicants has exceeded 32,000. Shenzhen MSU-BIT University has admitted only 130 Chinese undergraduates this year from a total of 2,621 applicants.

Shenzhen University has recruited students from 27 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The number of undergraduate students has reached 6,736. Compared with previous years, the quality of students has improved.

The number of recruited high-scoring students from Guangdong Province continues to grow. Candidates in the province should exceed the high-scoring priority admission line.

Shenzhen University has enrolled 215 arts students that ranked among the top-3,000 in the province, an increase of 14 percent over the previous year, as well as 1,301 science students who scored 80 points above the admission benchmark, an increase of 120 percent over the previous year.

Students outside Guangdong Province also face fierce competition for spots at Shenzhen University. The average score of arts students is 68 points higher than the first-batch admissions benchmark and the average score of science students exceeded 108 points of the first-batch admission benchmark.

The enrollment of general colleges and universities in Guangdong Province began on July 7 and ended on August 15.
