2-month-old out of danger
    2018-09-03  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

AFTER a week of coughing and fever, a 2-month-old baby tested positive for Bordetella pertussis. The virus had entered his lungs, leading to heart failure and respiratory failure.

In order to save the baby, doctors at the maternal and child health hospital in Bao’an District joined hands with a medical team that specializes in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) at the Shenzhen Hospital of Southern Medical University. An artificial heart and lung were used in order to help restore the baby’s cardio-pulmonary function. The baby is out of danger at present.
