IN the Shenzhen Daily of Aug. 20, we can read about Guangdong launching a three-month road safety action. Authorities encourage whistleblowers to report by offering rewards for several traffic violations.

In order to make roads safer may I suggest that at every entry or exit from our major highways there is a simple tire check for trucks. These trucks anyway have to slow down to pay their toll fee and a quick look will reveal that many of them are driving on worn tires. Many of those tires also have parts ripped out and are about to “blow out” any moment causing the loss of control of the vehicle.

If we truly are serious about making our roads safer then this is one measure we can easily take and will have a big impact.
