A WOMAN didn’t know she owned eight companies until she was denied a high-speed train ticket late last month.

The woman, surnamed Wei, later found her name on a list of defaulters on the official website of the Supreme Court as she got tangled in a lawsuit at Baiyun District Court of Guangzhou. She was the legal representative of the defending company in the lawsuit.

After digging further, Wei was surprised to find out that eight companies were registered under her name and all eight companies were registered after November 2014 when she lost her ID card while shopping in the Dongmen commercial area in Luohu District.

Because of the defaulter list, Wei was prohibited from traveling on high-speed trains or planes. She was told that she would get into bigger trouble if she left the situation unresolved.

To get her name off the list, Wei had to cancel all of the eight companies registered under her name, but to do this she would need to visit eight police stations and eight market supervision bureaus. She contacted the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily for help finding an easier way.

The newspaper contacted the municipal public security bureau and the city’s market supervision administration. The two departments promised to make an exception for Wei as she was a victim.

The municipal public security bureau assigned the Futian police to issue a certificate as proof of Wei’s special circumstances. With the document, Wei need not travel to other police stations to file for all the cases.

The Futian police will track down the suspects who used Wei’s lost ID card to register the firms.

The woman is currently awaiting a notice from the city’s market supervision department before canceling the companies with other market supervision departments. (Zhang Qian)
