Diver gets up close with shark
    2018-09-06  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A BREATHTAKING moment a diver gets up close and personal with a whale shark was caught on camera.

The footage, taken in June, captured daredevil Kerenina Sunny’s very first free diving experience on the coast of Gorontalo in Indonesia.

She is seen swimming behind the ginormous shark, who hovers in one spot inhaling huge amounts of salt water with its head pointed toward the surface.

It seems to turn to watch the diver as she twirls around it — but she isn’t at all worried by the filter-feeding beast.

Sunny looks minuscule beside the shark — which is often the size of a school bus — as she kicks her flippers to the surface to take a breath of air.

The diver then submerges herself back in the water, plunging further into the ocean armed with just a pair of goggles.

But the shark still doesn’t move from his near-upright position — not at all bothered by the woman twirling around it.

Sunny then reaches for the surface, taking a deep breath of fresh air as she ends her astonishing dive.

Whale shark encounters are fairly common in Gorontalo.
