Roads renamed

FOUR roads along the north-south axis of Longhua District are to be renamed as Longhua Boulevard, according to the Longhua management bureau under the city’s urban planning authority, which is currently soliciting public opinions.

If the name is successfully changed, Longhua Boulevard, which includes Meilong Boulevard, Dahe Road, Minhe Road and Sili Road, will span a total of 20.3 kilometers and run through Minzhi, Longhua, Guanhu, Fucheng and Guanlan subdistricts.

The move aims to avoid inconveniences caused by complicated road names and to improve road recognition and publicity, according to the authority. It is also part of a series of measures designed to optimize urban planning in the district.

Meanwhile, the Longhua government has also set up an online platform focused on the name change. Residents can log onto http://c7.gg/a32pv to submit their opinions before Sept. 30.

Garbage smuggling

HUANGGANG Customs busted 20 waste-smuggling cases in the past eight months of this year.

The waste included used plastics, electronic devices and other kinds of industrial waste. In the first case this January, customs officers found 6.39 tons of used plastic trays on an inbound vehicle.

The case is under investigation along with three others.
