Bantian road renovated with new bike lane
    2018-09-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ROADSIDE parking spaces along Hushan Road in Bantian Subdistrict, Longgang District, were replaced with bike lanes last week to provide a safe path for bike riders, the Shenzhen Evening News reported.

Before the renovation, Hushan Road was a two-direction four-lane road, but the two lanes on the outer sides in each direction were designated as Yitingche roadside parking spaces, so only two lanes were used for traffic.

The Longgang transportation bureau recently found that one of the sidewalks on the road was on a slope and lacked a bike lane. Most bike riders had to risk riding on the vehicle lane.

To provide a safer environment, the bureau decided to cancel the roadside parking spaces and renovated the lane with clear signs designating it a two-way bike lane. A 70-centimeter-high barrier was installed to separate the bike lane from the vehicle lane.

The bureau also installed 444 meters of barriers to protect pedestrians and bike riders on the path. Six reflective poles were installed on pedestrian pathways to ensure safety.

The bureau said it will continue to renovate problematic roads where vehicle lanes and nonvehicle lanes are not clearly separated to provide a safer environment. (Zhang Qian)
