Ex-official probed

A FORMER senior official with the city’s health and family planning commission is being investigated for disciplinary violations. According to the commission for discipline inspection Friday afternoon, Liao Weiqing, former chief of the medical service supervision department of the commission, is suspected of graft. No further details were available.

Ecological corridor

THE demonstration section of the Dashahe Ecological Corridor, which runs 2 kilometers between Shennan Boulevard and the mouth of Dashahe River to Shenzhen Bay, opened to the public Saturday, providing another leisure and relax option for residents.

The ecological corridor along the banks of the river was designed to be a sea of flowers. Most of the 130,000-square-meter area is covered by a greenery belt with flowers and plants. Volunteer service stations, free Wi-Fi, chairs, reading rooms and nursing rooms have been installed or built along the corridor.

The corridor runs about 13.7 kilometers along the Dashahe River from its cradle at Changlingpi Reservoir. The whole project is expected to be finished before the end of 2019.

Diesel trucks

THE city plans to eliminate 4,500 traditional diesel powered dump trucks and replace them with electricity or LNG powered and intelligent trucks by offering 490 million yuan (US$71.53 million) in subsidies, according to a budget plan of the government that was handed to lawmakers to review at a congressional meeting.

The move is to further improve air quality.
