GUANGZHOU Railway Group Corp. has decided to halt the sale of tickets dated Sept. 17-18 on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong rail line, Hangzhou-Shenzhen line and Guangzhou-Zhuhai intercity rail line, and for trains departing from Hunan to the above-mentioned lines, due to Typhoon Mangkhut, which has been reinforced into a super typhoon and will seriously affect Guangdong on Sunday and Monday.

“Mangkhut, the 22nd typhoon of the year, was 2,800 kilometers from Shenzhen at 7 p.m. It will probably be the strongest typhoon in the western Pacific this year,” said the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory.

Based on Mangkhut’s route, which is stable, the typhoon will have a strong impact on Shenzhen on Sunday and Monday, according to the observatory.

The rail operator also suspended sales of train tickets for today and tomorrow on Hainan Island due to Typhoon Barijat, the 23rd typhoon of the year, which will make landfall tomorrow between Dianbai in Guangdong and Qionghai in Hainan.

The long-distance trains across the Qiongzhou Strait to Hainan will also be suspended starting from today, according to the operator’s announcement.

Shenzhen will see torrential rain in some parts tonight and tomorrow morning, as Barijat is expected to pass over the sea area about 200 kilometers south of the city this afternoon or evening.

The tropical depression, formed in the seas southeast of Taiwan, entered the South China Sea yesterday and was reinforced into the 23rd typhoon of the year, according to yesterday’s forecast by the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory.

Barijat was 450 kilometers southeast of Shenzhen by 6 p.m. yesterday.
