Xi, Putin pledge to enhance bilateral ties
    2018-09-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

PRESIDENT Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks in Vladivostok yesterday and agreed to firmly promote bilateral ties, and safeguard world peace and stability.

Xi arrived in Vladivostok earlier yesterday for the fourth Eastern Economic Forum at the invitation of Putin.

It is the first time the Chinese head of State has attended the EEF, which was proposed by Putin in 2015.

Xi was warmly welcomed by senior Russian officials, as well as Chinese Ambassador to Russia Li Hui at Vladivostok International Airport.

Xi, during his seventh trip to Russia since 2013, is scheduled to attend several bilateral and multilateral events, including his third meeting with Putin this year. The two heads of state will also attend some activities on people-to-people exchanges and economic and local cooperation.

Li Hui told Xinhua News Agency that Xi’s attendance at the forum will be a milestone for the development of China-Russia relations in the new era, and will set a new course for regional peace and stability.

According to the diplomat, Xi’s attendance at the forum shows that in order to promote regional economic development, it is the right choice to stick to a win-win principle, improve cooperation, push forward trade and investment facilitation, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind.

This year’s forum, with the theme of “The Russian Far East: Expanding the Range of Possibilities,” is being held from yesterday to tomorrow.

World leaders and business tycoons gathered at the forum that opened yesterday.

The three-day forum has attracted thousands of attendees from more than 60 countries.

The participants will share their ideas around topics of international cooperation in Far Eastern development, industry priorities in the Far East, tools to support investors and measures to improve living conditions.

There will also be cultural, sports and educational programs during the forum.

Founded by Putin in 2015, the annual EEF has served as an important venue for face-to-face dialogue among politicians, business executives and experts for Far Eastern development and regional cooperation.
