Survey: 90% of parents support their kids becoming a teacher
    2018-09-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

According to a report published by Xiaoheiban, an application that serves as a communication platform between families and their schools, on September 7, the perceived social status of teachers by parents has risen and nearly 90 percent of the parents surveyed said they would support their kids in pursuing a career as a teacher in the future.

Starting in mid-August, the app rolled out the questionnaire survey titled “Teachers in the Mind of Parents,” aiming to learn about the image and impression of teachers on parents so as to build a better communication environment between the family and the school.

The report was based on over 10,000 questionnaires received within two weeks after the initiation of the survey. According to the survey, 74.8 percent of the parents believe that teachers’ social status has improved. Among all the parents surveyed, those with kids studying in high school perceived teachers’ status to be the highest, with the percentage reaching as high as 77.1 percent.

Nearly 80 percent of the parents expressed their understanding of the hard work teaching entails.

When asked why a teacher might want to quit his job, 73.6 percent of the parents said the reason is most likely that “the job is tiring and at the same time people don’t understand you.”

Regarding the question of what kind of difficulties teachers encounter on the job, most parents with kids in kindergarten or primary school thought the top reason to be that “the parents don’t understand the work of the teachers,” while most parents with kids in middle school thought the difficulty lies in students with naughty behavior.

Though 23.8 percent of the parents deemed working as a teacher very exacting, nearly 90 percent of the parents indicated that if their kids aspired to work as a teacher, they would support them. Some 49.5 percent of the parents expressed that they would be very supportive. This further illustrates the rising status of teachers in the minds of parents.
