Being a newspaper editor is great
    2018-09-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Now this is my third year of study at Xin’an High School and it’s my second year serving as one of the student editors of our school’s English newspaper. I’m going to talk about what this position is like and how I feel to be a student editor.

I have had a special interest in English since Junior High School. When I first entered senior high, apart from listening to lessons and finishing the regular homework, I couldn’t figure out what else I could do for extracurricular activities. Luckily, having heard of the announcement that our school English newspaper club was expecting new members, I suddenly felt relieved, for I finally got to do something meaningful.

It was at the newspaper club meeting where I first met Tang Ying (Rose), who is the chief editor of the newspaper. She introduced herself and some basic knowledge of being a member of the club to us, including exhibiting some students’ passages in the Shenzhen Daily. I was deeply attracted by the exciting editor work, and for the chance of writing articles for the school’s English newspaper.

In the following years at school, I constantly got the opportunity to translate some of our school’s Chinese news reports into English and write my own passages on specific topics.

When I first saw my story published in the school newspaper and even the Shenzhen Daily, I realized I had made the right decision to be a student editor. Moreover, I have learned a lot from other students’ articles, which helped me improve my writing greatly.

Furthermore, Rose recommended that we join her experimental class, which is a course to improve our English. We did many special things together, like sharing some personal opinions about the book “Twilight” we read. Furthermore, my classmates and I participated in our school’s New Year’s Gala, acting out an English drama called “Beauty and the Beast,” which won numerous good comments from students and teachers. We prepared for the show for quite a long time, from which we gained plenty of English speaking skills.

In conclusion, acting as an editor has been a fantastic experience. Not only did I get to publish countless passages in the newspapers and get to meet new friends, but also my confidence in dealing with all things has been enhanced.

Now I am about to graduate from our school, and I definitely cherish this special experience during my school life. I’m here to call on more students to join our English newspaper club. I hope more students will take action to write articles for our paper, which would notably arouse your passion in English writing. I firmly believe that, with your participation, our English newspaper club will be a better platform for students to improve themselves.
